FUE Hair Transplant in Turkey

FUE stands for Follicular Unit Extraction. It is a minimally invasive hair transplant technique where individual hair follicles are extracted one at a time from a donor area (usually the back and sides of your head, where hair is naturally resistant to thinning) and carefully implanted into the areas where you are experiencing hair loss.

Unlike the older FUT (strip) method, FUE does not involve removing a strip of scalp. Instead, your surgeon uses a specialised micro-punch tool, typically 0.6-0.9mm in diameter, to extract each follicular unit individually. This means no linear scar, faster healing, and the freedom to wear your hair short if you choose to.

The extracted grafts are then placed into tiny incisions in the recipient area, following the natural direction and angle of your existing hair. A skilled surgeon can transplant between 2,000 and 5,000 grafts in a single session, depending on the extent of your hair loss and the density you are aiming for.

The result is hair that grows naturally, blends seamlessly with your existing hair, and continues to thicken over the 12 months following your procedure.

FUE is suitable for the majority of men and women experiencing hair loss, but your suitability depends on several factors that your surgeon will assess during your free consultation.

You may be a good candidate if:

• You have a stable donor area with enough healthy hair follicles (typically the back and sides of your head)
• Your hair loss has stabilised, ideally, you are over 25 and your pattern of hair loss is established

Before your procedure

Your journey starts with a free consultation, either online or at one of our UK consultation days. Our team will assess your hair loss, discuss your goals, and recommend the best approach. You will receive a personalised treatment plan with clear pricing, no hidden costs.

Once you are ready to go ahead, we arrange everything: flights, hotel, transfers, and your procedure date.

On the day

You will be collected from your 5-star hotel and driven to the hospital. Your personal translator will be with you throughout. Before the procedure begins, your surgeon will draw the new hairline together with you, making sure you are happy with the plan.

Local anaesthesia is applied to numb both the donor and recipient areas. You will be awake and comfortable throughout, many patients watch films or listen to music during the procedure. The extraction and implantation process typically takes between 4 and 8 hours depending on the number of grafts.

After the procedure

You will receive detailed aftercare instructions, all necessary medications, and a special care kit. Most patients return to their hotel the same day and rest comfortably. A follow-up check is usually scheduled for the next morning.

Back home

Your aftercare continues for 12 full months. Our team will check in with you regularly, answer any questions, and monitor your progress as your new hair begins to grow.

One of the great advantages of FUE is the relatively quick recovery. Most patients return to desk-based work within 3-5 days and resume all normal activities within 7-10 days.

Days 1-3: Some redness, mild swelling (particularly around the forehead), and slight tenderness in both the donor and recipient areas. This is completely normal. You will be given medication to manage any discomfort and reduce swelling.

Days 4-7: Swelling subsides. Tiny scabs form around the transplanted grafts, this is a healthy part of the healing process. Avoid touching or picking at them. You can gently wash your hair following the specific instructions provided by your surgeon.

Days 7-14: Scabs fall away naturally. The donor area heals quickly, and any redness begins to fade. You can return to light exercise around day 10.

Weeks 2-4: The transplanted hairs will shed. This is expected and completely normal, it is called "shock loss." The follicles are still alive beneath the surface and will begin producing new growth.

Months 3-6: New hair begins to emerge. It may appear fine at first but will gradually thicken.

Months 6-12: Significant growth and thickening. By 12 months, you will see the full results of your transplant.

What to avoid during recovery:

• Direct sunlight on the scalp for 4 weeks
• Swimming pools, saunas, and steam rooms for 4 weeks
• Strenuous exercise for 2 weeks
• Alcohol for 1 week
• Smoking (ideally stop 2 weeks before and after, as it affects healing)

Every medical procedure carries some degree of risk, and it is important that you understand these before making your decision. FUE is considered a safe, low-risk procedure, but transparency matters, and we want you to feel fully informed.

Possible side effects (common and temporary):

• Redness and swelling in the treated areas (resolves within 1-2 weeks)
• Mild discomfort or tightness in the donor area (managed with prescribed medication)
• Numbness or tingling in the scalp (temporary, typically resolves within a few weeks)
• Shock loss of transplanted hairs (expected, new growth follows within 3-6 months)

Less common risks:

• Infection (rare, minimised by the sterile hospital environment and post-operative antibiotics)
• Scarring (FUE leaves tiny dot scars in the donor area that are virtually invisible, even with very short hair)

• Folliculitis (inflammation of hair follicles, treatable and temporary)
