What Is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is a small titanium post that is placed into your jawbone to replace the root of a missing tooth. Once the implant has fused with the bone (a process called osseointegration), a crown is attached on top, giving you a permanent, fixed replacement tooth.

Am I a Good Candidate?

Most adults with a missing tooth or teeth are suitable for dental implants. You may be a good candidate if you:

What Happens During Your Treatment?

Before You Travel

You share dental X-rays, photos of the gap, and your medical history. Your dentist reviews everything and creates a treatment plan with a detailed cost breakdown. Your coordinator arranges hotel, transfers, and translator.

Day 1, Assessment

At the clinic, your dentist carries out a thorough examination and 3D scan. The precise position and angle of your implant is planned digitally.

Day 2, Implant Placement

Under local anaesthesia, the implant is placed into your jawbone. The procedure typically takes 30 to 60 minutes per implant. If a tooth needs extracting first, this can often be done at the same appointment.

Day 3, Follow-Up

Your dentist checks the implant site and ensures everything is healing well. You are given detailed aftercare instructions.

Healing Period (3-6 Months at Home)

The implant fuses with your jawbone during this time. You carry on with normal life. A temporary solution (such as a temporary crown or denture) may be provided to fill the gap aesthetically.

Return Trip, Crown Fitting (2-3 Days)

You return to Turkey for your permanent crown to be fitted on top of the implant. The crown is custom-made from ceramic or zirconium to match your natural teeth perfectly. Once fitted, your new tooth is indistinguishable from the real thing.

Recovery and Aftercare

Recovery from a single implant placement is quick and typically less uncomfortable than patients expect.

First 24-48 hours: Mild swelling and tenderness at the implant site are normal. Over-the-counter pain relief is usually sufficient. Antibiotics are prescribed to prevent infection.

First 1-2 weeks: Soft food diet around the implant area. Avoid chewing directly on the site. Most patients return to work and daily activities the next day.

Months 1-6: The implant fuses with your jawbone. You carry on with normal life. Your coordinator checks in regularly.

After your crown is fitted: Care is identical to a natural tooth. Brush twice daily, floss around the implant, and attend regular dental check-ups at home.

With proper care, a dental implant can last a lifetime. The crown on top may need replacing after 10 to 15 years, but the implant itself is designed to be permanent. Your 12 months of aftercare covers both trips and the full healing period.

Risks and Considerations

Dental implants have a long-term success rate of 95% to 98% and are the gold standard for replacing missing teeth. As with any procedure, there are risks.

Implant failure: In a small percentage of cases, the implant may not fuse with the bone. Smoking is the biggest risk factor. A failed implant can usually be replaced after a healing period.

Infection: A small risk at the implant site, minimised by antibiotics and careful hygiene during healing.

Nerve damage: In rare cases, implants placed in the lower jaw can affect the nerve that runs through the jawbone, causing numbness or tingling. Precise 3D planning reduces this risk significantly.

Bone loss: Over many years, gradual bone loss around the implant can occur. Good oral hygiene and regular check-ups are the best prevention.
