If a patient is not suitable for the Gastric Sleeve a ‘Bypass’ may be considered. With similar results for weight loss to a Sleeve, the Bypass treatment divides the stomach into two pouches rather than an overall reduction.

  • What are the pre-operative preparations? How long is the operation?

    You will have a full check up before the operation, the results will be evaluated and your surgeon will discuss your readiness for surgery with you. You will also have the following tests; Full Urine Test, Blood Test, Chest Xray, Respiratory Function Test, Cardiology Consultation, Pulmonary Diseases Consultation, Internal Diseases Consultation, General Surgery consultation, anaesthesia consultation, Ultrasonography. The operation is mostly laparoscopic (closed) and takes around 80 – 90 minutes.

  • How does the procedure work?

    The stomach is reduced in size in order to make its volume smaller so the patient eats less and the consumed food is absorbed less, helping the patient lose weight.

  • How is the post-operative period? How much should I stay in hospital?

    You will stay at the hospital for 3-4 nights. You will have your last checkup before leaving the hospital and will be allowed to leave when these are completed and you feel fine and fit to leave. Our diet assistant, nutrition specialist will tell you your new nutrition plan and give you your diet plans. You will be asked to have regular blood tests in 1st, 3rd, 6th and 12th month after the operation. We will always keep in touch with you regarding your follow ups.

  • Will I need medication for the rest of my life? Can I gain the weight back?

    You may need use vitamin supplements as part of your new lifestyle and you will of course need to watch your nutrition. Consuming carbohydrates, fizzy drinks or alcohol may lead to weight gain.

  • Will I need aesthetic surgeries after weight loss?

    Some patients may need aesthetic operations such as a tummy tuck, arm lift or thigh lift while same patients don’t need any. It is all related to your metabolism, skin type and physical condition. Our aesthetic surgeons can help you with your requests after bariatric surgery and weight loss.
