  • Cataract Surgery (multifocal, trifocal, toric intraocular lenses)

Cataract surgery is a procedure to remove the lens of your eye and, in most cases, replace it with an artificial lens. Normally, the lens of your eye is open. Cataracts cause the lens to become cloudy, which eventually affects your vision. Cataract surgery is performed on an outpatient basis, meaning you do not need to stay in the hospital after surgery. Cataract surgery is very common and a safe procedure. When considering cataract surgery, keep these questions in mind: Can you do your job safely and see clearly while driving? Having trouble reading or watching TV? Is it difficult for cooking, shopping, gardening, climbing stairs? Do vision problems affect your level of independence? Do bright lights make it difficult to see? Your risk of complications is higher if you have another eye disease or a serious medical condition. Sometimes, cataract surgery cannot improve vision due to eye damage underlying other conditions such as glaucoma or macular degeneration. If possible, it may be helpful to evaluate and treat other eye problems before deciding to have cataract surgery.
